The Italians just know how to do it best and have the commitment to the art. If you were a drip coffee drinker then I'd say there are lots of good choices for coffee roasted in America. But espresso pods from here? Very few I've seen that are any good. The Aloha Island is good and I used to carry it. But the price was sky high and their packaging was bargain basement.

Your first order? Choosing Stout is a brave choice to start with. I hope you like it. Different people like different espressos and I think that blends heavy in Robusta (e.g. Stout) are an acquired taste and not for the faint of heart. Personally, I love it.

Absolutely better in the right machine. There are many issues having to do with quality (like temperature stability) but simply put, machines made only for pods do the best job. There is no leakage around the pod -- the biggest problem. The FF! Trio is a pod-only machine and the Trio function, which adjusts the "tamp" on the pod is designed to ... Read Moreallow regulation from a long shot to a short shot. Since I am only interested in ristrettos (short shot), my interest in this is as a way to compensate for grind variation. E.g., Lavazza pods are more coarsely ground than most others.
