Unfortunately, the alarm has been raised and raised and raised and yet, nothing continues to be done to change this trend. This is more than numbers, read the report and try to understand the amount of human suffering it represents. Then call your MP.
Dianna at 1:07pm June 30
And what good will that do? What good will calling your MP do? We need a couple of elections, not dialling our MPs. How did these Fiberals get elected anyway?
Deirdre at 1:46pm June 30
MPs do pay attention to phone calls and even more to letters ...they know that they are elected to respond to YOU and that if they do not you will not vote for them and they will lose power ..... write your MP and your MLA not all social programs are federally administered if every one who cared actually did something so would the politicians

Excellent. Black's informative piece shows to whom the benefit from tax cuts mostly go to, reminds us of the importance of public spending on public services, especially for those with a low income, demonstrates a kind of ripple effect on those earning near to the minimum wage, and argues that a society founded on solidarity is superior than one founded on greed. The "cut taxes" mantra as the remedy to poverty is well exposed here.

I think it would be nice to see energy policies that do not mean constantly hiking the cost of utilities for those that cannot pay upfront costs for energy efficient appliances, etc. and give rebates only to those that have the money in the first place.
Dianna at 2:24am June 10
In certain apartments, electrical heat is the only solution and, of course, it costs a bundle. Also, old buildings often have no insulation so the heat escapes through the walls, doors and poorly fitting windows. That is why a national housing strategy would be wonderful! More modern housing would compete against these non-green monstrosities. ... Read MoreOr we could bring in green renovation strategies so that landlords could make these buildings more energy efficient.
How about public buildings? How many of them are green? How many of them could be made greener? Is public money flying out the windows, doors and walls of ageing facilities?
