Portland Water Bureau just realized that the 115th birthday of Bull Run water is coming up soon! (1-2-10)! Wow. 115 years!

Portland Water Bureau Okay, so this isn't a physical community event, but an important anniversary date that you should be aware of!

On, January 2, 1895, Bull Run water flowed through Conduit #1 into the city for the first time ever! This day marks the 115th anniversary of that monumental occassion.

The first drink was given to Governor Penno...yer, who declared, "No body!" after downing his first glass.

That year public health officials noted an enormous decrease in typhoid fever cases.

I talk to the people in our (Clackaams River Water Providers) communities almost every day about how precious our water is, and how fortunate we are to have seemingly so much of it and it is safe for us to drink and use everyday with us not even having to think about it.....
We all are so lucky here in the US. We need to not take this for granted....

Not only global, but public education about our own water source, treatment and water distribution systems is critical for many different reasons. I have found if I can get my customers to create a since of ownership of their water source, and along with that give them enough information about the treatment and distribution to make it interesting... See More, they can see the big picture regarding things like, why it's important to conserve their water, and why it's important to raise rates a bit now and then...these sources and systems belong to the communities that use and pay for them...they should be better educated about them....ultimately it is the representatives of these communities who make the decisions.
Now that i've said that, I do know, on the occasion this can be a double edge sword....

Portland Water Bureau 's crews are 25 + minutes into their days... working to ensure that Portland's tap water is clean, cold, cheap and constant!

Portland Water Bureau 's product (that would be tap water, of course) will be featured on KATU at 11 on Monday, 11-23. David G. Shaff will be discussing our efforts to promote P-Town's darn good tap water!
