World scientists call for STRONG ACTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE.

Germany, the UK, the USA, THE EU, CHINA AND INDIA call for STRONG ACTION ON CLIM...ATE CHANGE.

JOHN KEY SUGGESTS "REALISTIC" ACTION.

In light of this we recommend a... more "realistic" brand for New Zealand's tourism industry.

10-20% PURE NEW ZEALAND

This group thinks that New Zealand's timid climate change target for the year 2020 will damage our international reputation as well as tarnish our 100% Pure brand. As a country which markets itself ...

Metiria Turei Check out this Greenpeace vidoe, the earth is too big to fail and if we can bail out the banks we can bail out the Planet.

As representatives from the world's 17 biggest global warming polluters met at the State Department in Washington, D.C. this morning, Greenpeace activists climbed a crane across the street to hang a banner with a picture of Earth and the message Too Big to Fail.

Metiria Turei The destruction of the Happy Valley camp on Earth Day is just terrible. Solid Energy's move into Happy Valley is environmental vandalism. It is one of our few remaining alpine wetlands.

It's the beginning of the end for the unique red tussock lands of Happy Valley. Solid Energy commenced coal-mining preparations in the area on Earth Day by constructing fences, installing security equipment, and taking apart the Save Happy Valley camp. ...

Metiria Turei Have a gander at this if you are interested in Maori Justice issues and the privatisation of prisons. I support the concept of Maori habilitation centres. if we can get them established for Maori and they work, then maybe we roll it out for others too. 70% of crime is (according to the Min of Justice) neither seriou...s or violent. We need to do something different, thats for sure.

Metiria Turei A money gobbling stadium or a productive tertiary asset?

blog.greens.org.nz
The Dunedin City Council remains committed to squandering a couple of hundred million dollars of ratepayer money on the white elephant Awatea Stadium while allowing a major tertiary investment to go down the tubes.

Here's an easy way to pay for the stadium AND lower rates.
The DCC should expand and upgrade (LTE/4G) its wireless broadband over the whole city of Dunedin and charge commercial rates for it. If the DCC offers 100 Mbps broadband, not only will this be a major infrastructural boost and expand business in town, but it will also represent a major revenue stream in the millions per year (if not per month!). Have a talk with the mayor about it.

It is no coincidence that it is me pushing this, as I wrote a column in the ODT in 2005 advocating for a DCC-run wireless network. We finally got one in July, but it only covers the Octagon.
