Reconciling Ministries Network This is a part of a conversation I have been having with friend who happens to believe that homosexuality is against God's will. After I wrote it to him I felt like it was something worth sharing with other cause I realized I had just poured my heart out to him. I would also like to note that out of respect for him these are only my words and nothing he has said.

Troy Plummer, executive director of the Reconciling Ministries Network, a movement supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender United Methodists, believes church members are simply lagging a bit behind their Protestant counterparts. “The United Methodist Church in the United States clearly follows the tr……ajectory towards inclusiveness mirrored by our North American sister denominations—the UCC, Episcopalian, Lutheran and Presbyterian churches,” Plummer said. “Our timing may differ, but God’s dance with us will be the same.” The next generation is “already there,” he added, pointing to the majority votes approving inclusive membership and gay and lesbian clergy by the United Methodist Student Forum and Global Young People’s convocation in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Reconciling Ministries Network There is an official position in The United Methodist Church on gay and lesbian sexuality, and that states the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching. The Judicial Council, the denomination’s highest court, in a ruling released Nov. 2 said that the Baltimore-Washington Annual (regional) Confe……rence went too far in adopting its own statement declaring “a more authentic and truthful representation of The United Methodist Church” is that “we disagree” on gay and lesbian issues. “The effect of the Baltimore-Washington resolution is to negate the church’s clearly stated position as reflected in current disciplinary language,” the council wrote. “Moreover, the Baltimore–Washington resolution attempts to articulate a new and different standard of church belief using language that has been specifically rejected by the General Conference.”

Their members stand near the conservatives, holding signs saying that God accepts gays just as they are. My youth group randomly started talking about homosexuality one week. As we began to ask what God must think of gays and lesbians, one of my youth group leaders responded that God sent AIDS to the world to send a clear message to the gays and their sinfulness. I was furious. I yelled at her and told her that her statem……ent was utterly ignorant and reflected no knowledge of how the disease is actually transmitted and how it harms all people. My youth group leader told me that science didn’t matter if God is still Judge. I left the group early that day just fuming and pissed.
