This is a great idea. It's a shame we didn't hear about it until today. Is there anyway the AHA can help?

I see that the event at carlsaganday.com was sponsored by the Carl Sagan Day Planning Committee, Broward College, Center for Inquiry, Florida Atheists and Secular Humanists and the James Randi Educational Foundation. They had several things planned, including teacher workshops, children... See More’s activities, showings of the COSMOS series episodes, food, magic shows, science displays, planetarium programs, telescope workshops, games, door prizes, and star-gazing. We may follow their lead locally next year when we have more preparation time.

How the discussions within the group sound exactly like those of religious fundamentalists,...with a change in vocabulary to be sure, but all the same degrading, lack of respect, lack of integrity, blame and name calling that comes from such groups. This groups sounds more and more like a group of persecuted religious zealots all the time. And one wonders why no progress can be made.

Thanks Bill. Now regarding Dave J. First of all there have been many Christians who think rationally and are very smart. The problem is that they very rarely are brilliant. Brilliance requires the ability to use the knowledge you learn and integrate it into all the areas of your life (especially the sacred areas). None do. And the ones that do, end... See More up like me. Sorry for my ignorant past. Sorry for the people I misled. Sorry for my barbarism.
For the second part of your argument. You are right, however people are reactionary. The capacity to be an extremist is in all of us. Most atheists are extremists. They are fixated and hate religion. This is the trauma response of being raised religious and coming to contrary knowledge. Just like female abuse victims become radical feminists. We think the world revolves around our nemesis.
