Mutor If you ever wanted to hear two nearly identical synths side by side, one with Curtis analog filter chips and one with digital, here you go. The difference is telling, and both designs have their strengths for certain sounds.

Mutor John Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh wrote a book in 1894 that was mindblowingly ahead of its time. This guy had a pretty firm handle on much of modern psychoacoustics long before electrical audio test equipment, synthesizers, hi fidelity, transistors or computers. Oh, and also figured out why a plane vibrating in water w...ill create small waves at a perpendicular to the plane (Rayleigh waves), and why the sky is blue (Rayleigh scattering).

Mutor Spent a good deal of last night working with this toy. The Microsampler met my needs of a small tabletop unit that had decent memory and sample length, excellent audio quality, syncable sequencer, and built in effects. I wish it had a sustain pedal and a force to clock loop play feature. But it's still awesome. It ...connects to your computer via USB to allow sample management and backup (although it runs at 48kHz internal sample rate, which is weird in a 44.1 world). Plus it has a little nook in the case for an iPod, which I'll be using for longer samples like voice over and long atmosphere stuff. Got it for $400 and change @ GCenter if I promised to write them a review. :)

Mutor When they go that way, I go this way. After using a computer based live pa setup since 2000 or so, I'm taking up the (mostly) analog gear. I saved my pennies and here's the heart of the new setup.

I've got an ESQ-1. Actually, aside from the noisiness, it's a great deck. Love the keyfeel on it actually as a "proper" unweighted controller. Back in the early 90s I actually knew how to use the sequencer on it too. :P

Mutor Threw up a new oldie on SoundCloud. This one is called The Fugly Suckling, it's a dirty dirty electro thing I use to set up a techno mood when coming out of a breaks dj.

For those of you who were interested in a Max/MSP like language but were frustrated with puredata's lack of a manual... it's a manual!
