In November 2008 Proposition 8 amended the California Constitution, taking the right to marry away from same-sex couples. This injustice should never have come to pass.

The former president's reversal is the highest-profile one to date. It may also have political implications for the future of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Melissa, DADT is "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"- a law that prohibits gays/lesbians to serve in the military and DOMA is "Defense of Marriage Act" - which basically says that marriage is between one man and one woman, that the federal gov doesn't have to recognize same-sex marriages and that one state does not have to recognize marriage from another state. Our community is working very hard to get those laws repealed.

This is the refreshing response I received from EP COC: (No big surprise that Chico's is NOT a member.)
___

Thank you for your message and for your expression of concern. Chico's is not a member of the Chamber. I want you to know that the Greater El Paso Chamber, its staff and volunteer leadership, as a matter of policy and practice, does not condone nor does it tolerate discrimination in any form. While I do not know the details of the incident other than what I have read in the newspaper, I am hopeful and confident that City officials and police department leadership will investigate the circumstances and provide the community with a full report.
