Yep thats right destroy your warranty! Phenom x3 8450 @ 3.1 GHz (yes its on air and stable) I usually keep it at 2.6 and GPU at 10% shaders 5% GPU.
Yes you can overclock anything you want as long as it stays cool. (Mishra) (google it oc 3200+)

Had my x3 to 3.54Ghz and still cool (enough) on air, though not stable (was able to run 3DMark if that counts for anything). :) AMD is amazing.

I have a x2 7750 at 3.15 ghz idling at 18 celsius, full tilt at 28 celsius. AMD basically dominates with their low budget overclocking CPUs.

Without aggressively pushing it I hit just shy of 4 GHz on my Phenom II quad core. This was the first time I've overclocked anything also.

In most real-world tests the AM3 socket Phenom II actually compares and often times beats the Core i7 add the fact that they're A LOT cheaper and the sky is the limit on overclocking not to mention the fact that you can plug them into an AM2+ board and you have the best price-to-performance ratio of any CPU on the market.

Psh? i7 beats PII any-day, and I'm an AMD guy personally.
8 threads > 4, depending on the application (I use a lot of multi-thread apps)
The i7 also has a much more powerful architecture, and overclocks just as well, if not better than, the PII.

Ok Tim yes it has 8 threads but it doesnt have that much of a lead over the PII. Remember the Athlon x64 days of domanance? a lot larger gap between the two companies. And on average the Intel will OC better. (very common to see I7 at 4.2-4.5 with turbo boost on) but nice price drop on AMD i have noticed (newegg).

to oc just change the number that is by default 200Mhz (200 * mult 10.5 = 2.1 Ghz) only BE can chang the mult for a little more play. do it slowly (ie 205, 210) until it wont boot then knock it down 5-10Mhz. just remember hoter parts die sooner so keep an eye on its temps.
