I don't know what I would have done without Conrad and VITA. He saved a lot of people and will definitely be missed.

Is it just me or are we (Equity) shooting ourselves in the foot a bit by pushing young actors to rush into the union? the number (and pay levels) of contracts are shrinking and we are all working hard to keep theatres afloat so they can hire us as it is. It seems great at first to be 20 and have your card, but when there are few jobs and a long ... See Moreline of people who are the same age and look... will it have been worth it?

My big fear is that we are ensuring ourselves a large, dues-paying membership who are all working day jobs, uninsured, and increasingly unhappy.

Unless you believe 50-year olds can convincingly play teenagers, what is your solution? Contracts may be shrinking, but that doesn't mean there won't be parts for young actors. I don't believe an AEA discussion group for young actors is pushing them into the union. And the fact is, there has always been "a large, dues-paying membership who are ... See Moreall working day jobs, uninsured..." You want to be happy? Work for Goldman Sachs (of course, then you'll really only be happy once a year...bonus time).
