very interesting. But- it's so great - who cares what method God used to help him decifer them - translate them the process is cool to know about but not vital to feeling the power in the BOM.

I understand his process. It was intellectual spirituality was what it was. And he was a real man and stood up for the challenge! Go priesthood.

I disagree with the assertion that Mohammad is somehow responsible for the actions of some who would use the faith of Islam to promote blood-thirst. Mohammad was not the Messiah, but I do believe he shared a Godly message of peace that liberated the minds of many held captive by false doctrines of idol worship. I also disagree with the assertion ... See Morethe Joseph Smith created any religion. He didn't creat it, he restored it through the power of almighty God. There are Godly times and reasons to fight; freedom, homes, families, etc. Many who now fight in the name of Islam truly believe they are fighting for God, Freedom, families, etc. If you read the words of Mohammad, you see the doctrine of peace, and even similarities to Christian belief. I believe that much of the ugly side of Islam has come about by the changing of Mohammad's actual words after his death. He is not my prophet necessarily, but his message was one of peace and liberation, there was much good that came from it. You cannot condemn all of Islam without condemning part of Christianity because we both believe in the Old Testament, which is the word of God. We need to be building on common goodness, not lashing out against common weakness.

Kathryn Engemann, you are so right! I recently received questions from a family member regarding our church and the BOM. While researching it, I was REMINDED that Joseph Smith translated it in only 60 days. I therefore challenged myself to read it in that length of time and completed it just this past Sunday, 9 day prior to my dead line. ... See MoreAlthough I've read it before, reading it within that time frame, gave me a whole other perspective and a huge appreciation for those that kept those records, wrote in them and edited them for our benefit. The love our Savior has for us is infinitely expressed in those sacred pages, like no where else in this world.
