National Geographic Channel LSD was used to treat alcoholism in the 1950s, but was also part of secret CIA experiments. Now science is taking a fresh look at LSD, including the first human trials in over 35 years.

So many LSD trips back in my day... I wonder how I made it out alive.... I don't regret the experiences as they were amazingly crazy and wild. Been 25 years since that time, however some of the most exciting times of my life.... ahh to be 18-25 again....

Compared to a lot of drugs out today, LSD use is relatively innocent.

I had a college professor, Dr. Hillman - who was invovled with the early version of the CIA during Korea. They would capture North Koreans and after torture and drugging info from them, would inject massive does of MSG (a food additive) into them to give them permanent amnesia of the events. He was my profesor of experimental Psychology.

LSD is not dangerous if you know how to do it. You have to be surrounded by the right people in a safe environment. I am glad I expanded my mind, but I wouldn't do it again.

What's LSD?

Dolly, Lysergic Dythalmide (not sure if I spelled that correctly), otherwise known as LSD, was created by Dr. Albert Hoffman in about 1938. He was a scientist for Merck and was developing a blood pressure medication.

I did LSD 25 and LSA (which is a little milder) about every weekend from the age of 15.5 to about 17. I was fortunate enough to know a chemist who grouped together with other like-minded individuals to gather pure ingredients and make it properly. I know from firsthand experience that LSD can be very helpful for depression. Even though I haven't done LSD in almost 10 years now I still retain the insights that I was given by myself during those trips.
I have never had a bad trip in my life... but then again I have a strong foothold on reality and I know how to control the hallucinations..... Oh, and I was a vegetarian..I hear that if you eat meat that the trip is different.
I would love to sign up for those trials! (but would never do LSD again for recreation...Not that there is anything wrong with it... just don't really want to because LSD is something you grow out of)

The infamous bicycle ride of scientist Albert Hofmann! After intentionally ingesting what turned out to be a HUGE dose, the feelings of fear started to give way to feelings of good fortune and gratitude, and that he was now enjoying the colours and plays of shapes that persisted behind his closed eyes... See More. ... Read MoreHofmann mentions seeing "fantastic images" surging past him, alternating and opening and closing themselves into circles and spirals and finally exploding into coloured fountains and then rearranging themselves in a constant flux. Hofmann mentions that during the condition every acoustic perception, such as the sound of a passing automobile, was transformed into optical perceptions. Eventually Hofmann slept and upon awakening the next morning felt refreshed and clearheaded, though somewhat physically tired. He also stated that he had a sensation of well being and renewed life and that his breakfast tasted unusually delicious. Upon walking in his garden he remarked that all of his senses were "vibrating in a condition of highest sensitivity, which then persisted for the entire day.. Sounds good to me!
