We use SmartBoards and SmartResponse system - was lucky enough to get both through grants. The students love working on the SmartBoard in both math and English (high school resource room and cross categorical). The students produce class assessments on the smart responses (used to be Senteo, akin to clickers) which keeps them engaged AND teaches them to be comfortable with technology.

I find the ongoing response systems (turningpoint or clickers) helps develop self-monitoring. After a month or two students are much more comfortable saying "I don't know that" instead of just hiding/ignoring their weaknesses.

GOD! That's reassuring for me!
The worst thing to us parents to special need kids is not only the present (after all we are here and keep watching and protecting our kids, although statistics tell us otherwise..) but the future. I think that every parent's nightmare is what could happen to their special needs kids when they are not watching or worse when they are no longer there to protect them.
Dreadful! Just dreadful!
