SAVE AWard - vote for the winne
Dear Colleagues,
As many of you know, the deadline for SAVE Award
entries for potential inclusion in the FY 2011 Budget was October 14, 2009. The
SAVE Award was initiated because the President, in his words, wanted to create
“a process through which every government worker can submit thei...r ideas for how
their agency can save money and perform better.”
We asked those of you on the front lines for
help, and the response was overwhelming. In just a few weeks, the Office of
Management and Budget received over 38,000 submissions – many of which will be
implemented across the federal government in the coming months.
Now, for a twist, the “final four”
SAVE Award ideas which were selected as finalists, will be voted on beginning
today. Voting is easy! Just visit www.SaveAward.gov to cast your vote. Voting
is open to federal employees as well as the general
public.
The winner of the
SAVE Award will get to present his or her idea directly to President Obama and
also have it included in the FY 2011 budget.
Thank you in advance for your
participation.

Friends of Service-Learning,
Subject to the availability of appropriations for fiscal year
2010, the Corporation for National and Community Service announces the
anticipated availability of approximately $1 million for Summer of Service
grants to support collaborative efforts to implement community-based
service-learnin...g projects during the summer months.
Programs will engage middle
school students (students who will be enrolled in grades 6 through 9 in the
school year following the end of the summer) in community-based service-learning
projects that are intensive, structured, supervised, and designed to produce
identifiable improvements to the community.
This opportunity should provide
youth, particularly those from disadvantaged circumstances, with
service-learning experiences that will motivate them to become more civically
engaged and aspire to obtain higher education. Program participants must
complete at least 100 hours of service within the summer program.
For this
competition, service activities should address environmental and/or disaster
preparedness issues relevant to the community served.
Applications are due on December 10, 2009.
