I agree that teachers don't seem to get any basics in child development, temperaments, or issues that can affect children's adaptation to a school classroom. I have heard this from many teachers. Of course many get it on their own and pick it up along the way. At the same time, so much of teaching can not be taught and comes from the person, their... See More own temperament, their experience, and their sensitivity to children. It is a calling. The pressure and deadlines and standards testing of the No Child Left Behind era has created less room for the inspired teachers to bring their passion and creativity into the classroom, to the detriment of the kids.

Gosh there is so much involved. You can't really cookie cutter any of it because the child's home life factors in so much, too. Sigh. I agree Sarah!
