ACS Nanotation

ACS Nanotation Lu et al. tackle an open question in molecular electronics: how are electrons transported in molecular wires? They show that new hybrid transport modes in medium-length OPE wires are important, and incorporate conducting AFM, break junction STM, and theoretical calculations to guide their analysis.

ACS Nanotation Felice Frankel and George Whitesides just published a second book on intrinsic beauty at the nanoscale.

www.hup.harvard.edu
A small revolution is remaking the world. The only problem is, we can’t see it. This book uses dazzling images and evocative descriptions to reveal the virtually invisible realities and possibilities of nanoscience....

ACS Nanotation ...mmm...coffee.....used in nanoscience....wait, what? Layani et al. show that silver nanoparticles can be patterned in nano-sized "coffee rings" using inkjet printing to make transparent, conductive coatings. Neat!

pubs.acs.org
We report here a concept for utilization of the “coffee ring effect” and inkjet printing to obtain transparent conductive patterns, which can replace the widely used transparent conductive oxides, such as ITO....

ACS Nanotation Does detailed, scientific information about nanotechnology and nanotechnological products help societal and individuals' acceptance of the same? Maybe, but maybe not. Satterfield and coworkers survey perceptions of risks vs. benefits in a thought–provoking Nature Nanotech. article.

...The results of recent work indicate that these characteristics influence risk perceptions through affective and cognitive processes: certain characteristics endow individuals with positive or negative affect — a rapid and intuitive, even visceral response — which in turn shapes risk perceptions b...

ACS Nanotation Do you think a space elevator is possible? (Also, mention of 'nano' is curiously absent in the article itself, but appears in the comments.)
