Some acedemic has his priorities right

An expert commission of African leaders today announced their plan for comprehensive reform of music band U2. Saying that U2’s rock had lost touch with its African roots, the commission called for urgent measures to halt U2’s slide towards impending crisis.

…as well as Poor. I don’t dispute, and I do care very much about changing, the well known material and health deprivation in Africa. But Life doesn’t have only one dimension.

Dambisa Moyo Bond markets offer a real opportunity for Africa’s governments to be serious about financial discipline and transparency — and to escape from the yoke of aid.

is not very much in favour of aid either. Also not in favour of glib, simplistic solutions. Or of uncritical friendships with the likes of Paul Kagame, whose resistence to Aid and favour of more foreign investment may be more motivated by his desire to loot the DRC more efficiently. Development is a slow, continious pr...ocess by thousands of ordinary people, who thoughtfully make the best of the resources they have - be it aid money, local or foreign capital, savings, remittances or whatever. Or their intellectual skills to improve governance, or aid or foreign investment or attitudes. Who experiment, discard what does not work and promote what does. Development is not either aid or trade - it is finding out what works best: where and how and why. The article may provide a more balanced view of the aid debate.

Dr. Moyo,
That was a wonderful presentation you made at the University of North Carolina. Thanks for signing the book and for answering my questions about the roles of Africans in improving their image and in their own development. I think from the crowd you are getting, you can tell that the world is listening to you ...and to the voices of Africans regarding what they want in order to develop. You have helped trigger the debates and 'LET'S HELP STOP THE CYCLE." Peter. http://www.africaproject.org
