OMG... What the hell is wrong with these people. The thought of this poor cat suffering this way. What a long agonizing death. I am speechless and that does not ever happen to me..................

How can you tell if you cat is in pain? It's not as easy as you think. Cats are subtle about demonstrating signals that they're ill or that they hurt. Dogs are more demonstrative; and I also think we tend to 'get' dog language more than cat language. ...

Joyce Sexton Steve Dale: Dear Steve, hope we can be friends. I volunteer for H.E.L.P. Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets in the Fox Valley Area. www.helpinganimals.org. A wonderful organization. I myself have 9 rescued kitties. 2 of which I bottlefed and could not let them go. They were 2 days old when I got them. A friend found them in ...a garbage dumpster. I am not a very good foster parent. I get to attached. Hope to hear from you. Joyce

Steve Dale Raise your kids and Cesar Millan trains dogs?

www.chicagonow.com
"Indeed, Mr. Millan's advice has replaced a shelf full of books on how to tame an unruly child," according to Amy Twomey, On Parenthood blogger. What the experts on parenting may not realize is that dog behavior experts know Millan's advice doesn't work for most dogs. ...

When you compare CM's approach to dog training to overly-permissive parenting (or dog training), then it makes sense. And indeed, the mumbo-jumbo of "pack leader" makes more sense with hierarchical humans, although I doubt that any parent of a pre-teen or younger thinks their child is really plotting to dominate them (though inexplicably they might think the dog is).

Having said that, I'm a clicker-trainer and a mom, currently working on a book comparing dog training to parenting, and I don't need CM's abusive techniques. If "discipline" = making rules, then most parents and dog owners do it; if "discipline" = "physical (or verbal) punishment", then most of us do not, and have no need for it.

Being calm, setting limits, and giving kids (and dogs) an opportunity to do the things they want to do are all good, and I have no problems with parents or dog owners adopting them. ... See More

The rest of CM's methods - flooding, alpha rolls, kicking, hanging, neck-jabs, etc. - are unacceptable for parents to use, and they certainly ought to be unacceptable for dog owner as well!

I have said for many years that dogs and kids are basically the same. They want rules, and they want to know that someone is in charge. If those two things don't happen, then THEY are in charge and the family doesn't work.

Steve Dale Don't panic: But a reader just emaled, her cat(s) may have H1N1, stay tuned. Certainly, if you're not feeling well, sadly, you may not want to snuggle with kitty

That was great! I especially like how they cleaned up after themselves at the end. Sure wish I could get MY dogs to do that! :-)

thanks for posting...the best thing we can do is to NEVER buy from these places, ultimately supply and demand will go into play, and these places will simply shut down. Wish you had called into the show about this - was out of town that day and hadn't heard. And grads to all those in Northbrook who took a stand!
