The Lifecycle Assessment model is also explored in James McWilliams' book "Just Food." It's an interesting book, but you have to ignore some of his suppositions about beef production, e.g., eat less beef, only grass-fed.

Ray, when you hear McWilliams speak it is pretty hard to ignore that little "don't eat meat" piece, since he says it every other phrase.

Jude, that paper looks great! You are such an assest to all of us out here working hard to produce food.

This video is very confusing to me because they talk about a cow who is receiving terrible treatment at the stockyard yet they show pictures of other animals and not her. At the Cargill stockyards in Milwaukee they are not allowed to shock the animals let alone get in the trailor when they are unloading and have even had Temple Grandin do animal welfare audit.

I just received this from Dairy Management Inc.: "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) posted a video on its home page (www.peta.org) that shows the mistreatment of livestock at a Kentucky stockyard. We have determined that this footage was gathered in 1983 and the stockyard closed at least 10 years ago, so we do not anticipate media coverage or follow-up by local officials but it has already sparked some social media conversations, we will continue to monitor the situation."

I don't know if this has to do with this bill but we are seeing the FDA is monitoring import of animal feed for quality issues from canada. There is a bunch of Canola Meal that can't cross the boarder because on 1 load having high Salmonella. So now the FDA won't let any of it across the border even if everything tests fine.
