Vernon Ah Kee exhibited some impressive, large-scale portraits at last year's Sydney Biennale cementing his place as one of Australia's leading contemporary artists.
His current work is on display from tonight at the Gippsland Art Gallery, 'CantChant' tackles the Australian beach as a site predominantly associated with... white leisure, framing it rather in terms of Aboriginal sovereignty and as a pivot point of territorial defence and assumption.
The opening starts tonight at 7.00pm with the honours being fulfilled by Vanessa McRae, Deputy Director, Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane.
