Music Connections Jingle Bells - check out some history, some laughs, and a CONTEST.

musiconnx.wordpress.com
Ask children if they know a song about bells. The first to come to mind is “Jingle Bells”. Although it is commonly known as a Christmas song, as it has nothing to do with this celebration. It is a fun song about riding in a horse drawn sleigh, meant to make people laugh. Since GOOD laughter is G...

Music Connections just started a new series of blog postings on bells. Please tell me what you think of THIS one.

musiconnx.wordpress.com
Bells for hundreds of years have served many purposes. Bells call people to worship and prayer. They sound warnings and alarms. They beckon ships to safe harbors. They celebrate birth and new life, and they peal in announcement of death. They are rung during Christmas to announce the arrival of...

Music Connections The Magnolia Tea Room (in Auburndale) has Mrs claus reading Christmas stories and singing songs, then the kids have a tea party (full lunch) and then make gingerbread houses. It’s on the first three weekends of Dec. Children are about $14 and adults order lunch. Call (863) 965-1684 for reservations (required because they limit it to 25 participants).

Music Connections Check out my newest blog posting about many of the fun family events in the Lakeland community. There are so many wonderful options, both in the community and personal, that I usually leave December open for those options. Our family traditions include the Walkabout and the Parade, and sometimes the Snowfest. Maybe we'll see you there.

Wow ! So much holiday fun, perfect for children, is planned for this week, I thought I’d share what’s going on in town. Plus, I’ve found some excellent online resources for keeping up with local events.

The snowfest was cancelled due to inclement weather. Fake snow and rain just don't mix.

Preschoolers: practice OWN beat and EXTERNAL beats in variety of ways This week, the students in the Imagine That! class kept a beat by using their arms and bodies to “See Saw, up and down, in the air and on the ground”.
Music Connections

Music Connections In addition to the ways to "catch a beat" with your babies, this blog posting focuses on additional fun ways to help your toddler and walker experience beat and develop their own. PLEASE SHARE: What is your child's favorite way to CATCH a beat?

musiconnx.wordpress.com
Toddlers continue to EXPERIENCE beat, and practice movement, and they are developing a beat of their own, but are typically not yet ready to match the beat of recorded music. It is better to match the beat of the song to the steady beat they use.
Music Connections

Music Connections Once you've learned ABOUT steady beat in the first blog, this one expands on ways YOU can help your BABY experience and develop Steady Beat.

Lap Babies and Crawlers must EXPERIENCE beat in a variety of ways.
Music Connections

Music Connections Developing steady beat is an important focus of almost every Kindermusik class. I developed a blog posting a couple of years back that really consolidates the information that is helpful to know as a parent of a young child. It is one of my most popular postings, and has been used by other educators for teacher training, and parent info. Feel free to share.

A STEADY BEAT is an unchanging continuous pulse. This is different from the Rhythm Patterns of a specific song.
