Jon Ortner is based about as far from the landscapes that make up his latest book as you can imagine, and he shows that sometimes the best landscapes come from having an outsider’s perspective.

Outdoor Photographer Magazine “I’ve spent an awful lot of time in my life, as I’m sure many of you have, trying to hike just a little farther, climb just a little higher, in the belief that the most beautiful view was just over the next ridge. True, sometimes it was, but just as often, I passed right by a place of truly exceptional beauty in my mis...taken belief that the most extraordinary place was the one that was farthest away.”

Thanksgiving morning started out very foggy but when I stepped out the back door, it was almost mystical. I ran back for my cameras and got some awesome shots that I posted on my FB page. Good comments.

i think #5 (using cheap filters) is especially true. Otherwise it amounts to one thing...use a solid tripod/head combo, use it often use it for the best sharpness and know your lenses!

LOVE just about every photo posted to this site!! What great works!!! Some of the photos remind me of some taken by my photo group called NEPE. Some are way better than anything I have seen, but some of the shots I would claim my fellow group homies could take better. I LOVED the photo of the moose in the Maine sample. Just great!! Love the wildlife photos in general.

Outdoor Photographer Magazine “While I may find a scene interesting as I stand on the ground, I often find myself wondering what it would look like if I climbed a tree and shot it that way,” says Jim Oltersdorf, who recently taped the Discovery Channel special, “Risk Takers 2: High-Risk Photographer Jim Oltersdorf.”

Nothing nearly as adventerous for me... some backyard birding and a few deer in NJ is as "wild" as it has gotten for me ;)

One thing we can all agree on (I think) is to get out there... be present and enjoy where you are while practicing our craft. All are good times.
