AFSCME Every day, 16 workers go to work and don’t come home. They are killed on the job. But far too often, employers that have created or ignored dangerous workplace conditions are not held accountable. Civil penalties are weak and criminal prosecutions rare. Learn more:

www.youtube.com
Pass this on to friends and family to help protect America's workers. Sixteen workers are killed a day in the United States because of reckless negligence on the part of their employers. Under existing laws, these employers get a slap on the wrist, or walk away scot-free. ...

The histories of our unions are not known by the young for the most part... Child labor laws came from union fighting the forty hour week, every holiday ones has... On and on and on... Union’s wanted the thirty hour week split so we could employ everyone with a decent wage... It was never about overtime, it was about the labor force having jobs and people not being slaves to the bosses...

AFSCME Health care reform passes the House. From the AFL-CIO blog: "There’s still a long way to go, but today is a great day for the country and a big step toward a health care system that works for everyone."

blog.aflcio.org
This is what progress looks like. Tonight, by a 220-215 vote, the U.S. House has passed a historic health care reform bill that will improve the nation’s health care system, covering millions of uninsured and making insurance work better for those who have it.

I strongly agree but it would never have passed...120 to 115 and 1 of our votes was from a Louisianna republican..go figure...we need to put out the list of the 39 Dems that voted against healthcare and make them regret it when it comes time to be relected.

The health care reform bill passing is GREAT news!!!

But it looks as if there are 39 Reps that call themselves Democrats that may need to replaced the next time they come up for election. And my thanks goes out to Joseph Cao (R-LA) for voting FOR the health reform bill!

This is good news for ALL Americans!!!

OMG...are you still here? Get over it, Biff. You won't see Republican rule for decades. By then we will have democratic socialism like Canada and Europe, and nobody will want to give it up, just like nobody is willing to give up Medicare or Social Security. Welcome to the 21st century! There is no going back, brother.

Biff Hause: I was just messin' with you, buddy. It's not the end of the world. If every other civilized nation can afford universal healthcare, the wealthiest nation in history can certainly afford it. Free, single payer healthcare like the system we subsidize in Israel is the ultimate goal for liberals, but I doubt any of us ever live to see that. Social progress goes very slowly in the US. Teddy Roosevelt first proposed universal healthcare a century ago.

you really think i want a bunch of neo-cons in office ? I'm not a republican, barry. Republicans should be happy with the new administration...Obama has kept almost all of Bush's abuses of power in effect. Signing statements-check, torture camps-check, 2 senseles wars-check, patriot act-check, executive orders 10990, 10995, 10997 and 10998 just to name a few. I could spend all day chewing on bush for the ills he did to this country. But what point would that serve other than historical lesson ?

Obama: if you make less than 200,000 your taxes will not go up
HR 3962 will make your taxes go up...either by taxation or fees
... See More
Obama: I wont use signing statements
within his first week in office he was utilizing signing statements

Obama: All bills will be on my desk for 5 days before I sign them
so far only a handful have

Obama: I am going to find a way to bring out troops home from afganistan and iraq
well...i think you can see what's happeneing there...

Again, dont get me wrong...it would be NO better if he had an R behind his name. After 8 years of bush I was hoping for some real change...instead i've gotten more of the same.

I guess its just too much to think that people would actually uphold the oath that they swear to uphold the constitution !!! They've just now hijacked authority that belongs at the state level. I think that reform would have meant more and been more beneficial at the state level anyways.

And Barry...that was just a small rant earlier...my post in the last topic i went a bit more in depth. I do expect that even in my union I'm allowed to have my own ideas and still be respected. I still respect those who believe the left / right paradigm. Both major parties serve the elite globalist bankers...think of them as two wings of the same fire breathing dragon that is sent among the people to consume them with fire !!!

I'll give you some documentary homework Barry...a quiz will be coming later !

Hold everybody accountable! If they voted "No", then they have to go!!!

As a progressive, I'm as disappointed in Obama as Mr. Biff Hause is. The problem is, he still is 100% better than having a neocon in office! Let's try to get him in line, rather than blow the chance for real change (once again). I would hate to see another Republican president in 2012!

worst part is that instead of having a discussion as brothers and sisters...those who follow mainline democrats are antagonistic and attacking towards those who aren't drinking the "blue" kool-aid. And even though I'm an independent...people think that I'm a republican, which pisses me off too...I hated bush, and since there hasnt been much change... See More in how things are run in the white house...we basically changed from a texas oil gangster, to a chicago politician. I'm just happy I'll be paying more and more taxes that I can't afford !
