you know nancy, believe it or not the US isn't perfect and owes many of nations apologies. Or are you from the school where parents are never wrong and surely NEVER dish out an "i'm sorry"? Get real and start watching international news that does NOT come on CBS, ABC, NBC.

Fines are not acceptable. Those who can't afford HC at this time probably still won't be able to afford health care. Had we the complacency and apathy prior to 1776 that we have today we'd indeed still be under British rule. And the Democrats want to talk about Sarah's dress??? Conservatives! Are you out there? ... See More
Madame Pelosi wasn't happy with the small jet USAF C-20B, Gulfstream III, that comes with the Speaker's job...no, Madame Pelosi was aggravated that this little jet had to stop to refuel, so she ordered a Big Fat 200-seat USAF C-32, Boeing 757 jet that could get her back to California without stopping!
Many, many legislators walked by and grinned with glee as Joe informed everyone that Nancy 's Big Fat Jet costs us, the hard working American tax payers, thousands of gallons of fuel every week. Since she only works 3 days a week, this gas guzzling jet gets fueled and she flies home to California , cost to the taxpayers of about $60,000, one way! As Joe put it, 'Unfortunately we have to pay to bring her back on Monday night.' Cost to us another $60,000.
Folks, that is $480,000 per month and that is an annual cost to the taxpayers of $5,760,000. No wonder she complains about the cost of this war...it might cramp her style and she is styling, on my back and yours. I think of the military families in this country doing without and this woman, who heads up the most do-nothing Congress in the history of this country keeps fueling that jet while doing nothing.
Madame Pelosi wants you and me to conserve our carbon footprint. She wants us to buy smaller cars and Obama wants us to get a bicycle pump and air up our tires. These people are nuts.
Keep in mind the figures above do NOT include cost of plane or crew, just fuel!
One wonders what her total package cost us? And she wants to tax our IRA's

@ David Lee...if they did not make people get health insurance, what would stop people from just getting coverage when they got sick? And since they can no longer be denied for a pre-existing condition, why would any healthy person pay for insurance. Every single person the insurance companies covered would have a claim. It would bankrupt the system.

I don't understand the question at Steven Spencer. Is this something new? Have people in this country finally been exposed to a new HC different from what they already have. If you get sick, don't have insurance and go to the hospital, you get a bill which you and only you have to pay back.

My questions are Why do you think the gov had to step up ... Here's a solution for uninsured Americans. The administration( if they were actually concerned above all else) could take a percentage from the 85% of the stimulus that's still left over and insure the 'factored" 12 million uninsured Americans. They could do so without jeopardizing the current HC system. They could do so without conrolling 1/6th of the economy and they could do so without the possibility of putting the country into deeper debt. The Health Care reform is now bordering on an estimated 1.4 trillion dollar cost. Insuring 12 million American would cost no more than 60-70 Billion dollars.

If our government was Actually concerned with the well being of the less fortunate and uninsured they could participate in this charitable measure to help their own citizens. It's not charity they're concerned with, it's not giving or making sure the less fortunate are covered that they're concerned with. If insuring the uninsured was solely the agenda behind their bill, extracting funds from the stimulus and bailing out the less fortunate and unisnsured like they did the auto industry and banking systems would be
their first viable option. What should happen to the uninsured?? Honestly, most of them will remain uninsured. Only now, besides being uninsured they'll also be subject to fines and penalties for still not being able to afford coverage and most likely they'll be taxed like everyone else to maintain the reform as I highly doubt senate will pass any bill that only taxes the wealthy.

Also Pelosis's plane is not petty, it's actually quite relevant. She was offered a smaller plane first but since it inconvienienced her to stop along the way home the teax-payers are subject to her having a bigger plane which consumes more gas at a faster rate of speed. The reason it's relevant as opposed to petty is it's just a small example of how much the government really relates to anyone suffering with the current economic crisis. It's one small example amidst a sea of countless waste and spending which washes along the shores or negligence. Your congress feels they are all powerful sir, and for some disgusting, ridiculous reason, you still support them. Good night Jonas

Mr. Sturgeon. I have to admit that I had a similar reaction to the Balderston websites that Ms. Mueller did, but she expressed herself a bit more flamoyantly than I would have. I do wonder about what has been described as the" incohate anger" of some sections of the electorate. To me, it seems like simple sour grapes - hey I've been there, I lived through the Bush years, Contract for America, Dick Army, Tom Delay, etc.. But this isn't just sour grapes is it? Now it's Obama is a terrorist, a Muslim, a Nazi, a socialist, a Communist. The whole kitchen sink right? Well, he's none of those things. I read through some of Balderston's website and respctfully tried to absorb the message. I'll keep working on it. In the meantime I have some info too. It is a little dated, 2005 I think, but it is a lecture by a linguistics professor named George Lakoff given at UC San Diego. Lakoff has helped me understand the cultural divide between the left and right and he has done so via the exploration of the metaphors each side uses to develop their world view. This lecture tries to hit the high notes of a book he wrote called Moral Politics. It's about an hour long. There are no trick here. He presents himself as a liberal and does not pretend to be anything else. The crux of his work on metaphors is that conservatives display a "strict father" view of the world while liberals have a "nurturant parent" worldview. I found it interesting. So if you have any interest in how this liberal (me) thinks about politics (even if out of civic duty), Lakeoff's explanations are helpful.

Mr. Sturgeon, I hear you on the labeling and I agree, but I think Lakoff is not interested in labeling as much as explaining the world views of conservatives and liberals. The" labels" he comes up with are actually a method of explaining the way traditionally conservative or liberal platforms hang together. The family metaphors he dicerns from our ... See Morepublic life are easy to understand. I am so happy to hear you say that things are GREY. I couldn't agree with you more, but I feel that many on the far right (and the far left) have trouble accepting that. Here's how Lakoff might apply his two differing family metaphors to the health care debate. The President, as the "father of the country" in the nurturing parent model (the liberal model) would never let any of his children (American citizens) suffer unecessarily and thus the notion of extending a hand of support to our less fortunate children is clear. Just as I love both my sons equally, I would never let either one of them suffer unecessarily even if that one were irresponsible. Would I like having to bail him out? No. But I would do it, because that is what parents do. Under the "Strict Father" model (the conservative model), the President, as the father of the country should not tolerate or encourage irresponsible behavior. Everybody knows it's stupid not to have health insurance and so if you need it you go get a job and get your life in order and take care of yourself and your family. As much as it might be difficult for the strict father to be so stern, his irresponsible need to learn a lesson. Life is hard, there is no free lunch.

You wrote, "WE ARE BROKE." Well, there are tough times out there. I'm not an economist, but I do know that there are bright economists on both sides of this issue. Choose your poison. How can we know for sure until we try. I'm just afraid that the children (US citizens) will be harmed unnecessarily, unless mom and dad stop fighting about what to do and just do something.

One day a man saw a old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pinto was still sputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe; he looked poor and hungry.

He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you. ... See More

He said, 'I'm here to help you, ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.'

Well, all she had was a flat tire,
But for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.

As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid.

Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped.
Bryan never thought twice about being paid.
This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty, who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.

He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, 'And think of me..'

He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her
Feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan .

After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin.

There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: 'You don't owe me anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you.'

Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.

Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard....

She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, 'Everything's going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson.'

There is an old saying......'What goes around comes around.'

Guys, I'm sorry, truly. You totally misunderstood my comment to Mr. Sturgeon. Perhaps it was a bit flip, but I am familiar with the notion of "what comes around goes around." I just don't understand the context of including it here. Except perhaps, Mr. Lee, that it may be a "metaphor" for something. Metaphor wasn't invented by liberals. Reagan ... See Morewas a master at metaphor. How does the story enlighten? I'm trying to understand. By the way there were "facts" to the Pelosi story that you apparently missed. Facts mean a great deal. The "fortune teller" metaphor you used (see everybody uses them because they work) suggests that you think that George Lakoff (the guy I referenced in the youtube link) isn't using facts to determine his conclusions. Indeed, your metaphor "Fourtune Tellers at Fairs" is a very compelling strike against intellectuals by which you are saying professors at universities are really simply fooling around and don't know what they are talking about. Actually, they are not fooling around and you don't get to become a professor unless you know what you are talking about. Mr. Lakoff is a cognitive scientist who is very concerned with facts. Politics on the presidential level has less to do with "facts" and more to do with emotion. The fact is that Mr. Sturgeon introduced a story into this discussion, but he did not clearly indicate why he was introducing a story. I read the story carefully and I found it touching. I think that sounded too feminine and perhaps too emotional and thus it became an insult. The story is touching, but how does it move this discussion forward? I missed it. I did look up Bryan Anderson, the Iraq vet who suffered sever injuries there, but I'm missing your point. He looks like he has an inspirng story and conquered much in the face of adversity. Is that a model you are promoting. If so, you'l have no complaint from me. But does this mean that those souls who cannot immediately find inspiration in the face of adversity like Bryan shall be condemned to suffering and bankruptcy because of our HC system. Can the "what comes around goes around" concept be applied to nations too or just individuals?

We the people do not NEED to be Made, from the Federal level to care for all this "HC" cure!--Plus there is plenty of programs already in place to provide a cure for most of the HC problems! I also think you didn't read my earlier post on my 30 years in the government? Big rule understood... See More by us peons is; always handle your problems at the lowest level possible-first! Never-ever involve higher-ups with-anything one doesn't have to! Why hasn't all this work on HC been directed at all the programs in place to make them work-One BIG reason common sense-those government frameworks are already in "PLACE"?? The money "SAFED" on this one thing alone would "PAY" for the "REAL" uninsured of 27 million!!

Jonas the Lakoff material is interesting. For people who read anything of opposing views and like to see other people's points of view explained, so thanks.

Obama did not go to make a speach becaise it did not fit his apologetics tour. Maybe on this one he was, more likely some on his staff was, to tell him it would not be a good idea to apologize to the Germans for the United States tearing down that wall. No glory for President Narsictic. then we wont go. This could not be a speach filled if "I" words.

Im still trying to understand why people with no insurance don't want it! How stupid is that? What if you break a toe? Who pays for it to be reset? Me and others who pay into the health care system, that's who. President Obama is on the right track with his health care plans and finally so is Congress. It's about time-get it done, sign the bill, and move on to the next big challenge in this country: crime which is out of control.

Midnite, actually you don't pay for it. It become the debt of the uninsured patient. The only ins you're paying for if not your own is that of the illegal immigrant. You pay into civic taxes which have an allowance for just such patients. Stop arguing on behalf of false information. If you think your gov should be in charge of 20% of the economy when they can't even manage the Dept of Energy and they've been doing that for thirty years, you're dumber than you look.

There is a name for the disaster the Obama Administration and Congress are pulling us into. It's called the Cloward-Pivan Strategy and they are in the final stages of their plan. And for all you haters, at least look it up before posting your insults so you can know what you are talking about
