Hear, hear, Joe Patrick. EU has lots of nonsense, but a lot of sense too. You have to go elswhere to see how progreessive are the EU conventions in, say, judicial system, contract law, personal and business freedom. Leaving the non-sensical regulation about crooked cucumbers aside, lots of good has come out of EU treaties.

Metric crashed and burned under Jimmy Carter in the late 1970's in the USA. Of course, it's an outstanding set of weights and measures (particularly the physical properties of liquids and gases), but if folks don't want it, who has the "right" to force such economic encumbrances to "them"?
