The Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue Team received a report shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday of a person in the water near a boat landing in the city of Monona. Callers reported seeing an ice boat sail sticking out of the water.

Walworth County Today William Mott defeated incumbent Third District Alderman Tom Spellman, 191-133, in a Lake Geneva recall election Tuesday.

City Clerk Diana Dykstra said the recall election drew almost 30 percent of registered voters in the Third District--a higher turnout than expected given the inclement weather and the approaching holiday.

Stephen M. Compton, the attorney who pleaded guilty to felony charges of possession of narcotics and bail jumping, was sentenced Friday to three years probation.

MADISON (AP) - Anyone under age 21 would have to be completely sober whenever on school grounds under a bill introduced in the Wisconsin Legislature.

Walworth County Today State Sen. Neal Kedzie gave DNR Secretary Matt Frank an earful yesterday at a capitol hearing. He warned Frank the agency's policies could ruin hunting, forcing the agency to ask the Legislature to raise taxes to make up lost license fees.
