While all the well meaning individuals of the world look look for ways to clean our air, our water, our lives, there is always someone who has their finger on the reality of the situation by using (shudder) mathematical models: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2009/10/16/recipe_for_failure
.
Basically what the article says it that every ... See Morecountry is out for themselves (and why nothing lasting/meaningful will come out of Copenhagen in Dec). Just because you make clever little kumbayaa videos it doesn't mean you're going to change the behavior of other countries that are now becoming significant players in the game of global economics. The up-and-comers rationalize that the US and Western Europe have had their opportunity and they polluted and ran up carbon emissions indiscriminately to benefit their own people (and continue to do so) so why shouldn't we take care of our own first too and think about the repercussions later? Or more likely, the 1st-World countries will have more money to try and solve the problems that they created in the first place. These countries won't tow the line unless the more powerful countries (and their citizens) agree to lead by example. Our duty is to lead and then provide the technological knowledge that we have gained to the developing countries. The temptation then, is to use economic leverage over other emerging economies that partially or don't comply but that would be a diplomatic error. That would only fuel more anti-American rhetoric down the road.
.
This in over the weekend: Copenhagen a bust for climate change reform measures even before the meeting starts: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/15/world/asia/15prexy.html?_r=1 Self-fulfilling prophecy or is Bruce the Geo-Political Game Master?

GreenDig I'm getting more and more scared about the epidemic of science illiteracy. Religion belongs in church, not in school.

www.mnn.com
H.S. teacher assigns scientific article on homosexuality in the animal kingdom and is suspended. People... science might be inconvenient but it is true.

I'm getting more worried about the growing ranks of parents who would rather have their kids indoctrinated with religious beliefs, instead of being instructed on real science. It's a big problem, folks.
