No Blasphemy Law in Ireland This may not be for everyone, but it is an excellent website that provides the necessary documentation and information required for changing your official religious status. Unfortunately, freedom of choice is a rare commodity in Ireland and it is difficult to officially to register your religious position. Maybe if mor...e people could register their position dranconican bills like this wouldn't be proposed.

Mr Ahern said the legislation, which passed its committee stage in the Dáil yesterday, has been drafted to “make it virtually impossible to get a successful prosecution [for blasphemy] out of it”.
In the Irish Constitution of 1937 there are references to blasphemy law, therefore a referendum would be required to change/...remove it. So, until this referendum takes place, they much comply with the constitution. This is simply a workaround to circumvent it; even though the Blasphemy Law will be there, it will be impossible to enforce. There is no legal definition of blasphemy making the entire law moot.

"However, Fianna Fáil whip Diarmuid Wilson immediately requested a walk-through vote which takes about 10 minutes to complete. In that period two Senators, Geraldine Feeney of Fianna Fáil and Deirdre De Búrca of the Green Party, had time to get to the chamber and the amendment was defeated by 23 votes to 22. The Bill i...tself was then passed by the same margin."
