One year 15-20 years ago my grandmother told us she knew a short cut down the back side of the mountain, there were about 10 of us ages 8- 68 that went down the backside without any trails. When we got to the bottom we had no idea where we were, the kicker to the story was that the whole family ended up hitch hiking in the back of a chipper/tree service truck back to Black Mountain!!! One of a 1,000 great memories from Montreat!
