There is NO amount of money that will fix the ills of DPS! In the last thirty five years Detroit politicians has used the school system to enhance their poltical careers. Non of those people thought about the education of children. Their self interest along with some incompentant teachers and administrators has caused several generations of illiterate people in Detroit.

Don't forget the outward migration of the "best and brightest". So now you have few schools in DPS that have Parental involvement.

The huge influx in Charters has diluted DPS such that more of the best and brightest go to these schools (which claim higher achievement, but skew it with a higher caliber of student). And when the Charters kick the hoodlums out of THEIR schools, they go to DPS which HAS to take them....by LAW.

Money is not the ONLY solution, we need to take on some governance changes as well as having schools dedicated to "at risk" students where their needs can be met an not disrupt the general student body.... See More

These will be unpopular, but necessary.
