Next year's defense bill will probably include a provision repealing the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," policy, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) told the Advocate on Wednesday. Kerry Eleveld has the fascinating

Shelly, thanks for being the voice of fairness. When I look at conservative Facebook sites, you can be sure THEY think the president loves gays far too much! The man can't win.

Another Veterans' Day is upon us, and there's perhaps no more appropriate time to pause and consider the challenges facing our 23 million military vets. There's the obvious: wars on two fronts, which affect our troops-to-be-vets and the VA

As much as it pains me to do so, I agree with Coburn. This bill can be better - it can be paid for and it can help more veterans. Oh, and "Dr. No" is Ron Paul, always has been.

Before being too enamored with the beauty of plastic, check out Chris Jordan's photography series "Midway: Message from the Gyre" http://www.chrisjordan.com/ This was the single most talked about presentation from this year's PopTech Conference. It takes a lot to stop people in their tracks. The facts that Jordan recorded did.

it's unfair to say that the catholic bishops are doing nothing about capitol punishment. our bishop in portland oregon has been very active in opposing the death penalty: http://sentinel.org/node/10249. the stupak ammendment is not an abortion ban, it just says that taxpayer money can not be used to fund these procedures. if we used taxpayer money to fund abortion, there would be equal uproar from the pro-life side. this just preserves the status quo. let's not distort the amendment.

While I can't fault someone for making a living, earning boat-loads of money. I do feel that this makes it difficult for our representation to fathom the daily struggles that a lot of us face. i.e. stagnant wages, near usurious credit-card interest rates, access to health care.

I'm very sympathetic to the intent of the article, but the basis for discussion is faulty. What if we tried similarly to get proportional representation for "seamstresses" or "convicts" or "people who cannot read"? Of course, being rich helps finance one's own election but membership in those other groups does not. The point should be, to level the playing field so that being rich is not so crucial to get elected.

I like her voice, but....no thank you.

Really too bad Americans and Brits staged that coup against Mohammed Mosaddeq back in 1953. All because the Iranians asked for just a little of the profit from the oil being pumped out of their country. Dumb asses altered the direction of history in a most unfortunate way. The US has never recovered from the Eisenhower presidency and its coup d'etats on behalf of corporate interests.
