Sparrow Hawk Photography Featured Photo of the Week: Only a mother...

In honor of a wood stork being recently spotted at Legg Lake in SoCal (about 5 miles from where I grew up), here's a face only a mother could love! Just goes to show...if you go far enough toward ugly, you get beautiful!

Sparrow Hawk Photography Featured Photo of the Week: The Surveyor

This handsome mule deer buck was part of a group of bachelors that were hanging out together. This was taken just before the rut began...when the bachelors would no longer be so friendly to one another, and instead, would begin fighting each other for the right to breed.

Sparrow Hawk Photography Featured Photo of the Week: Gorillas in the Mist

This is my favorite spot in the local Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rockies. The Sangres get their name because they often turn blood red when basking in sunrise light! I had hiked up there (this lake is at 12,000 ft) to photograph that blood red sunri...se light hitting the three 14ers that rise from this lake, only to wake up and find it raining and the peaks encased in clouds. Just goes to show, "You can't always get what you want, But if you try sometime you find, You get what you need"

Harbor seals of such wonderful creatures...so expressive and humorous. I'm always amazed at how dexterous they are with their hands!

Sparrow Hawk Photography Featured Photo of the Week: Ice Castles

I just love early morning winter light...it sucks the color right out of everything and adds an ethereal feel to the remnants of this ice storm in Yosemite Valley on New Years Eve morning a few years ago. If you look closely, you can see Vernal Falls in the background.

Sparrow Hawk Photography Featured Photo of the Week: I'm too sexy for my shirt

I almost thought I was going to have to get a "model release" from this handsome guy, he was just so content to pose for me :-) Sadly, this magnificent creature was almost hunted to extinction in the early 1900's for the male's breeding plume (seen here in the lower... middle of the shot)...to decorate society ladies' hats. I've never understood that, because the plume looks so much more beautiful on the bird!
