Norwegian-owned aluminium corporation Norsk-Hydro confirmed at ameeting with the Wilderness Society on 12 November 2009 that itwill not be pursuing plans for bauxite mining in the Mitchell Plateauregion of the north Kimberley, and has returned its mining leases tothe State Government.

Norwegian-owned aluminium corporation Norsk-Hydro confirmed at ameeting with the Wilderness Society late yesterday that it will not bepursuing plans for bauxite mining in the Mitchell Plateau region of thenorth Kimberley, and has returned its mining leases to the StateGovernment.

The Wilderness Society says 42 countries - over a fifth of all countries on Earth! - have signed the Wilderness Society's forest pledge to protect natural forests and indigenous peoples' rights in those forests.
