Jim Kohn AT&T: I became eligible for the best upgrade pricing for the iPhone 3GS as per AT&T's June 17th press release. Pre-ordered and paid full price for the phone, but never received credit for the differenceas promised by AT&T. Customer service, including supervisors, are clueless: I had to email them the link to the press releas...e. After OVER AN HOUR on the phone with them, they said they'll look into it and get back to me. This should be an automated procedure. Don't try to look like heroes by changing your policy, then make customers jump through hoops to get the promised credit.

Seems logical enough to me that I posted it on my blog. It fits with at&t public statement of "late summer" and also fits a possible 3.1 release which has the updated att carrier file.

But AT&T has very publicly denied the $55 tethering price, it was on here just last week. I'm guessing closer to $30-35

Chris, This article is incorrect. Tethering will not cost $55 and there has been no date publicly announced. We will be sure to provide details on tethering release date and pricing when they become available.

As for MMS - it is still slated for late summer.

The popular thing to do nowadays is relentlessly bash AT&T, but not all of it is warranted. In the followup to MacYourself's first iPhone drama analysis, more sensitive subjects are addressed and brought to the forefront. Continuing the discussion...

It's become common practice for Apple loyalists, technology gurus, and the American media to bash AT&T and their iPhone exclusivity. When you really look at what they've done, don't they deserve just a tiny bit of credit? Just like anything else...

There are some good points in this article and I don't think AT&T deserves all of the abuse it gets, even here. BUT, I think they have dropped the ball pretty badly on both the 3G rollout and MMS/Tethering on the iPhone. And the cost for txting on the iPhone is ridiculous. That being said, my AT&T service has been very good for the last 7 years that I've had it.

AT&T deserves much more credit for what is great about the iPhone rather than what is wrong with the device. The most interesting portion of this article was the fact that Verizon wanted to force the V-CAST software on the iPhone and that would have handicapped so many of the features that have made the iPhone a gamechanger. AT&T was willing to ... See Moregive Apple free reign, which no other provider would have and it changed the industry. I also find it interesting that hardly anyone takes into account that if AT&T were to release features like MMS and tethering on the iPhone when software 3.0 was released that there may have been issues because they weren't ready to go public to so many iPhone users. It takes time to implement this technology when such a large portion of your customer base is going to use these features extensively when they are launched. What would you prefer, waiting a few months for the features to be ready or countless error messages?

Who really controls your Apple iPhone? If you think you do, think again. AT&T, the U.S. distributor, requires iPhone owners to use its wireless networks exclusively. Those who jailbreak their devices and use another carrier void the warranty.

Well Verizon got offered the iPhone before AT&T got it. But Verizon had to give up a TON of customer support and they weren't allowed to insure it.

Fred Garvin AT&T: AT&T - Don't forget the AT&T execs this 4th of July holiday! They'll be bathing in your hard earned cash and plotting further price gouging. Since last July, AT&T has not made any noticeable improvements to their 3G service and it still pales in comparison to Verizon.

Learn how you can let the people (that count) at AT&...T know you're not happy with how they continue to charge you for services that they don't provide and how you're not happy about the continued price gouging:
