Mercury bioaccumulates in fish mostly from air pollution deposition -- from coal-fired power plants and other industrial sources. PCBs are more mysterious -- mostly from stormwater runoff, I think, but industrial sources too. (The Spokane River has a significant PCB problem.)

Kootenai Environmental Alliance KEA Book Club meeting this morning facilitated by Polli Hamlin, KEA Member and Educator. The first book: "Last Child in the Woods" by Richard Loev (on the nature deficit disorder). Suggestions for others such as "Let My People Go Surfing" by Yvon Choinard, founder of Patagonia, "The Big Burn--Teddy Roosevelt and the Fi...re That Saved America" by Timothy Egan, were discussed. Next meeting is Saturday, Dec 5th. Read the first half of "Last Child in the Woods" and join us.
