I suspect the overwhelming majority of the people who know the facts/history of the situation support the dramatically increased public access, jobs, civic esteem, and economic development benefits which will come from the move.

The "controversy" did not represent a strong division of public opinion, it's mostly the product of a media which gives ... See Moreequal time to both "sides" even where the ratio is 100 to 1 (e.g. global warming) and a legal system which is too slow, too complicated, and too indulgent of people who really don't have a enough of a direct interest to be involved in a case (most lawyers would say yes on standing, regular people would say no). p.s. in a region of 4 million people, 20 people really doesn't rise to the level of a "protest" - it's barely a baseball team - Ghandi and Dr. King lead protests against real injustices which is why they had hundreds of thousands of followers in the streets and many millions at home - every time 2 or more people make noise and the media term it a protest/movement they're doing a bit of a disservice to real leaders, who faced real dangers, to solve real problems...
