One piece of legislation that wasn't on the agenda this week was the bill to cap per diem rates of elected officials. As a result, the dubious special session cost taxpayers $35K.

First, stop the bleeding. New York State, especially upstate New York, is losing its lifeblood of jobs and, as the jobs drain away, its population. There are other consequences as well: Two more congressional seats are likely to be lost after the 2010 Census.

Unshackle Upstate The TU is reporting that the special session for next week may not happen. This was the time the legislature was going to deal with the deficit. Either they don't care that the deficit is growing, don't have the courage to make the cuts, or are worried by the anti-incumbent results from Tuesday. Whatever the reason, our burden just keeps growing.
