Congressman Joe Pitts

Congressman Joe Pitts I believe it's important that we develop clean alternative energies, but fossil fuels will remain important to our nation for many years. We need to ensure our energy independence and I believe we can do so by developing American resources. An interesting column yesterday from George Will

What city contributed most to the making of the modern world? The Paris of the Enlightenment and then of Napoleon, pioneer of mass armies and nationalist statism? London, seat of parliamentary democracy and center of finance? Or perhaps Titusville, Pa.

I agree 100% Until some very smart people come up with a better source of energy... which I'm SURE will happen, we need to keep producing the thing that works! (wood transitioned to coal, coal to oil, it's the natural order of things)

Congressman Joe Pitts The head of agency collecting stimulus data will not vouch for the reliability of the jobs "saved or created" number frequently used by the administration.

Tim, I think you have unintentionally swerved into a fundamental truth about the lack of capitalism and our health care system. The people who use the service are not the ones who pay for it. So there is no incentive for individuals to take cost into account. We have developed a culture that the government or some large insurance company will, ... See Moreor should pay for whatever medical service we want or need. So the incentive to drive down costs is not there, hence the 45K water fountain. You can make the argument that a government run system has buying power which makes them more competitive, but they also have the ability to run in the red and impose taxes, price controls and regulations, which are all typically used. The end result is less clinicians willing to work under that burden, lower quality, less availability and rationing.
I'm getting off topic again. I wish I could convince my wife of the money I've "saved or created" to justify buying some cool but unnecessary man stuff. I need some of that Obama charisma to be able to say something that outrageous and have her be OK with it.

Other countries do a better job with much less money than we do. It is only ignorant and arrogant to think that the US always has the best solution for everything. This country will never get anything done with a Congress owned by corporations and special interests and a populous so easily swayed by the rhetoric of pundits and ideologues. As ... See Moresomeone who has been pushed into "consumer driven healthcare" I can tell you it is not a normal marketplace. The consumer has no tools to find the best, lowest cost service. Insurance companies, hospitals and doctors like it that way. The insurance company has no reason to provide the consumer tools, they make their money in premiums and deny claims. In the absence of a true free market, then government should set all fees. Oh wait... they do that in japan and it works. They even have more MRIs per capita than the US. You would be well served to get a tiny bit of information about how systems work around the world.

Good for you James, the point is many (probably most) have no idea in what Congressional district they live. Philip I get it. Socialism for the rich and Capitalism for the rest of us. That's your plan. We need more tax cuts for the rich and less regulation. It's worked so well. Only an idiot would think that we have been redistributing wealth downward for the past twenty years.

Tim, under capitalism and the sweat of our brows, wealth is created. It is not a zero sum game. It is sad that you think wealth must be redistributed upward or downward by government, and it is warped to think that NOT confiscating peoples property is a bad thing and form of selective socialism aimed against the poor. So call me an idiot, but I ... See Morecan't ignore the failures of EVERY government and the misery of its peoples that have embraced redistributed wealth and excessive regulation. And I'll take the failures of the past 20 years and the lifestyles Americans have enjoyed any day over what has happened in other countries. Will capitalism eliminate bad people and companies? Absolutely not. But our collective prospect of success is far better under capitalism than socialism. Class envy will make you and those around you miserable. (I'm stealing that concept from Exodus 20:17.)

Congressman Joe Pitts The reports for Pennsylvania have many of the same problems described in this story. Just more evidence that the government does a poor job of stimulating growth.

Congressman, won't this just hurt poor americans that cannot afford this procedure on their own? ??
In this country a woman has her right to choose to have a baby or not. Why then would we try to circumvent that right by not allowing poor woman access to abortion via their health care. Isn't this just a back-door means to limit women's right to choose?

THANK YOU to those who voted no! I'm not opposed to health care reform, but I am opposed to reform that further allows the government to take over the US economy, implement stifling taxes, fines and imprisonment as well as grow the national debt and open the door to regulating EVERY aspect of our personal lives. (BTW, How much do YOU weigh?) How... See More many of those who voted "Yes" actually read the bill? This bill has very little to do with health care reform and is much more about power. If support for this bill is overwhelming, why did it need to pass on a Saturday at 8 pm by a margin of five votes? This issue is no longer a left vs right or a Dem vs Rep issue. Freedom and the absence of tyranny (and anarchy) is just as important for liberals as it is for conservatives.
