The Emmy® nominated public television series SIMPLY MING is back for its seventh season, bringing mouthwatering recipes into homes across the country. With an all-star guest lineup, flavor abounds in recipes inspired by the combination of East and West ingredients such as Coconut Milk and Cranberries, and Panko and Dij...on. Fresh, healthy ingredients add vibrance to the dishes. And, from pantry to pot, Ming continues to offer recipes that can be prepared in one vessel. Tune in for 13 new episodes and 13 specially selected encores. The new season of SIMPLY MING kicks off on Saturday, October 10, 2009 (check your local listings) with a special episode featuring Iris Tsai, Ming’s mother. As the source of his inspiration, Iris helps Ming utilize Parsley and Wonton Wrappers in this episode to prepare three tasty dishes. With her chef’s apron on, she may just succeed in proving that mother really does know best! All-Star Guest Lineup This season, Ming’s studio kitchen bustles with the delicious sights, sounds and smells brought forth by his talented guests who are on a mission to merge the East and the West onto one plate. Stepping up to the table are: Susur Lee, chef/owner of Lee and Madeline’s in Toronto, Shang in New York, and Zentan, at Donovan House hotel in DC; Art Smith, celebrity chef, award-winning author, and humanitarian; Tony Maws, chef/proprietor of Craigie on Main; Charles Draghi, chef and co-owner of Erbaluce; Annie Copps, senior editor, food, Yankee magazine; Michael Schlow, executive chef and co-owner of Radius, Via Matta, and Alta Strada; and, Iris and Stephen Tsai, Ming’s parents. Food for Thought There may be more ways to a person’s heart than just through food, so this season Ming invites leaders of local and national nonprofits into his kitchen to prepare delicious dishes and to get the word out about their causes. Representing these nonprofits are: Billy Starr, founder and executive director of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon benefiting the Jimmy Fund that is a pioneer of the athletic fundraising industry and today raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country; Greg Zaff, creator of SquashBusters, will be joined by a student from the organization, which challenges and nurtures urban youth to recognize and fulfill their potential through the game of squash and fitness, as well as academics and community service; Melina Shannon-DiPietro, executive director, Yale Sustainable Food Project, an ambitious program aiming to change the way our country engages with food and agriculture; and, Joshua Viertel, president of Slow Foods USA, an organization aiming to create a world in which people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who produce it, and good for the planet. “As we enter the seventh season, I’m proud to welcome these local and national nonprofits to the show – they’ll share their recipes and we’ll hear what’s cooking at their organizations,” said Tsai. “And as always, I’m excited to see what new dishes some of the best chefs in the business will create when we give them an East-West ingredient pairing.”
