Progress Florida Florida now leads the nation in home foreclosures. What can our leaders, from President Obama to our local mayors, do to keep people in their homes?

www.palmbeachpost.com
Florida topped the nation in the percent of home loans in foreclosure for the third quarter of this year with banks taking back 12.74 percent of the state's mortgages.

Mandate lenders to lower interest rates to 4% fixed on all existing mortgages. Require banks to release only a few foreclosed properties into a given market at a time to keep from further lowering property values in that area. Require buyers and those refinancing to take a course on homeownership and finance before they sign a mortgage. Ban low doc loans and require buyers to actually have proof of income. Do not allow loans that exceed 30% of a buyers income.

Oh, and local governments can use their CDBG money to buy distressed properties and bulldoze them so they don't drag the property values further into the ground.

Progress Florida The "tea party" movement and the "birthers" are becoming more and more outrageous. This billboard just went up at a car dealership in Colorado.

David Sirota, posted a link to their website, they are "Used Car Salesmen" catering to the Birchers, Birthers,Aryan brotherhood and the Klan.......unfortunately this publicity is going to help their business. But, so far I have not seen it on TV, so they might not get the message as long as it stays in the print media as that would require being able to read.

Apparently there is more profit for the private sector running prisons than there is in public schools. Has there ever been a cost study comparison. How may of the 50% of students in Florida not graduating end up in jails?

That's alot of money. Is this the same US government who spent millions of dollars to drain the everglades? I was disturbed by the documentaries I watched.
I agree, stopping the drainage is a great idea. But I really believe getting the job done could cost alot less then that. Especially when today's economy is so bad. It's just bad business to spend so much on such a small task. Machinery and labor costs should be way down.

Realizing that Mr. Sanchez' DUI conviction was not contested by Josefina, I did a little research on that aspect and found this 1995 article. Progress Florida Florida's not so sunny future: we're one of 10 states facing a major "budget disaster." This is what happens when your legislature refuses to modernize your tax system and make the wealthy pay their way.

www.huffingtonpost.com
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In Arizona, the budget has grown so gloomy that lawmakers are considering mortgaging Capitol buildings. In Michigan, state officials dealing with the nation's highest unemployment rate are slashing spending on schools and health care.

Want a big surprise (perhaps?). Check your County tax rolls for big box stores. They likely pay about the same impact fees that would be applied to a mid-sized home, if that.

I love how the Florida GOP shunned stimulus money for unemployment - you know, 'eff those people - in order to save businesses from increased taxes. Now they have to increase the unemployment taxes because they didn't accept the stimulus money!!!
