Project Sustainability I love wave energy generation! I see a huge market opporunity for serving smaller island communities that currently rely on diesel fuel to generate most of their electricity. Wave power could replace a large majority of that diesel and with a little storage capacity, could potentially replace it all!

The simplest ideas are best at harnessing underwater wave energy. You don’t want lots of parts in the harsh marine environment (for machine parts) under the ocean. Here’s an idea from a diver ...

A very detailed and complex study (pdf) Increasing Wind Energy’s Contribution to the US Electricity Supply weighing the costs and benefits of increasing wind power to 20% by 2030 included some very interesting projections on bird extinction numbers expected from climate change.

The kite consists of a wing, which is provided with a turbine and a generator, attached to the seabed by a tether. Hydrodynamic forces on the kite caused by the current velocity makes the kite to move and by a control system it is taken in a certain trajectory. ...

Here’s a radical perspective change for wind power. Instead of harnessing wind power to turn blades tethered to a pole, the KiteGen simply harnesses that rapid unspooling motion of kites reeling out as they release upwards.

40,000 turbines is significant, but remember this... In 1940 our armed forces weren't among the 12 most formidable in the
world, but obviously we were going to fight a big war. And Roosevelt
said the U.S. would produce 50,000 pl...anes in the next four years.
Everyone thought it was a joke. And it was because it turned out we
produced 100,000 planes.

Is this one of those moments...

Project Sustainability While I would favor a more streamlined market mechanism (a straight carbon tax) it looks like Cap and Trad is where the US is headed. Here's a great article explaining exactly what it may include.
