Proven Winners ColorChoice Flowering Shrubs Instead of breaking your back raking, consider mowing the leaves back into the lawn.

It's that time again when the pretty fall foliage will soon begin to tumble to the ground and cover up the turf. Instead of breaking your back raking, consider mowing the leaves back into the turf. So, if you're thinking about giving mowing a try here's what you need to know to be successful.

I mow mulch 3 times, bag the mulch on the 3rd then put the mulch in my garden, or compost heap. I also just mow the leaves into dust. It works!

oh there are so many things; start a compost pile, use a rain barrels because rainwater is much better than water with all those chemicals. You can make your own garden soil pretty easily if you live in a warm climate. You can rake the leaves after it rains and the moist soil along with the leaves makes a very good mulch-like soil. I have ... Read Morefilled 5 garbage cans wtih this type of soil. Its nice because its light and full of natural nutrients. It's also inexpensive! ignore the weeds because they grow better and faster than the plants... Hah!

If you are lucky to live near a landscape arboretum, often there are Master Gardeners on hand that are more than willing to answer questions. Also, you can get great ideas for companion planting, native plant ideas and design.

I actually did this several years ago, under our Burning Bush (tree form). It's one of the things I look most forward to seeing in the spring. Those Chionodoxa really GLOW!

Black Lace Elderflower Champagne (This recipe come my friend Fiona in England - she says it's great) 7 Flower Heads (pick on a sunny day as there will be fewer flies on them – but the odd fly adds to the flavour!)
1 ¼ lb sugar
5 liters water
2 lemons
1 tablespoon vinegar

Boil water, mix with sugar, allow to cool.
Add sliced... lemons, vinegar and flower heads, stir every now and then over 24 hours.
Then squeeze the juice out of the lemons, mix and strain into screw cap bottles (which have previously contained a fizzy drink).
Leave until fizzing (about 1-2 weeks) before drinking. I don’t know about its shelf life – worth experimenting with if you have any left over.
