We plan to hold adult camp the week of July 20-24. Once again, we will be holding daytime and evening sessions. This year, we will be focusing on the general theme of training the horse. Here is a list of topics we are planning to cover. We will issue the final schedule once it is confirmed with instructors/lecture...rs.

Overview: how horses learn; why horses need to learn how to be ridden; we are all trainers
The training scale
Starting the young horse: halter training, leading, handling feet, standing for grooming
Teaching a horse how to longe
Starting the young horse under saddle
Advanced longeing of the horse; improving balance and contact
Dealing with bad ground manners; spooking
Proper warm up and conditioning programs
Where does “Dressage” fit in?
Teaching the young/green horse to jump
Mounted sessions:
General assessment
Diagnosing training problems; “Why is he doing that and how can I fix it?”
Exercises to address tension, stiffness and resistance
Exercises to improve acceptance of contact
Exercises to improve forwardness and impulsion
