RefWorks

RefWorks We are aware that their is currently an issue exporting from EBSCO to RefWorks, and we have been in contact with them. Unfortunately this is an issue on EBSCO's end, and we ask that you direct all inquiries on the matter to their support team. If you have other questions in the future, please feel free to contact our support team at support@refworks-cos.com, or 775-327-4105. Thanks!

Until the Direct Export is fixed, you can perfom a manual text import from EBSCO to RefWorks. It works just fine. Our instructions are located at http://www.refworks.com/RWSingle/help/Exporting_from_Data_Services_and_Importing_into_RefWorks.htm#EBSCOhost

Nic Steussy I was very happy to find refworks. I work on multiple computers (work, home, coffee house) and across multiple operating systems (Linux, Win, Irix). The online nature of Refworks is a great solution.

Hi Robert,

The problem is on EBSCO's side. They estimate a fix by Friday. In the meantime, you will need to export to a text file and import the references in. See: http://www.refworks.com/RWSingle/help/Exporting_from_Data_Services_and_Importing_into_RefWorks.htm

Look for EBSCO.... Read More

Two questions if that's ok? 1. How do you distinguish between two references which have the same author and same year but are different (e.g Mark 2007a, Mark 2007b)? Is this something you just have to edit as you input the reference, or can you input it to the actual records themselves? 2. This follows on - but if you ...are writing a book, with each chapter as a separate word document (the requirement of the press) can you create one bibliography from a string of different documents each with their own references?Read More

Hi Haidy,

1. RefWorks will add the alpha characters to ambiguous citations automatically when it formats the documents.

2. Yes. Write rw-rwsupport@refworks-cos.com for details on using master and sub documents from our program.... Read More

RefWorks

RefWorks Did you know that RefWorks provides instructions for importing from specific databases? You can find them here: http://ow.ly/APEJ

RefWorks supports hundreds of databases provided by numerous data vendors. Import filter development is an ongoing process and new filters are being added continually. For a complete up-to-date list of import filters click here.

Brian Mac Pages integration? Any way to do anything better than paste the bibliography in from the web? Thank you.

Margarete Onnen

Margarete Onnen Is it possible to create subfolders in RefWorks? That would be really helpful for organizing the references.

While RefWorks does not currently support sub-folders, one suggestion we give users that accomplishes the same goal is to consider hierarchical folder naming. Below is an example of how a hierarchical folder structure can be created in RefWorks:

Cars <-----Master, or top level, folder
Cars - Engines <----- Secondary folder
Cars - Engines – Hybrid <----- Sub-folder... Read More
Cars - Engines - Traditional <----- Sub-folder
Cars - Transmissions <----- Secondary folder
Cars - Transmissions - Automatic <----- Sub-folder
Cars - Transmissions - Manual <----- Sub-folder
Cars - Wheels and Tires <----- Secondary folder

The advantage to this is that the folders will sort alphabetically in all drop-downs and menus and will retain the same structure as if the folders were literally embedded within each other (like when viewing Windows Explorer). Master and secondary folders can remain empty or unused, but act as placeholders. References can then be filed in the sub-folders.

Actually it works pretty well. I just cut-paste the citation into the text, and save in .doc format.

Actually, I figured out how to identify the vacancy that was Ref 26 but since I must have deleted it, I won't know what it was. The only thing I can think to do is to check every reference and make sure they all align with an ID number. That seems cumbersome. Any better ideas?

Do you remember the author or the date of Ref 26? Compare that to the references in your account. Since Ref 26 is missing it might be because you deleted it as a duplicate.

Kathryn Craig

Kathryn Craig How can I view my references by number? RefWorks is refusing to format my document because it "can't identify reference 26". I have no footnote 26 and made only one or two small changes in the document which RefWorks formatted without a problem previously! I can't figure out how to list my references by iD number. Is that what I need to do?

Sherree

Sherree Thank you Refworks!
