There is little to salvage from last week’s mass murder at Fort Hood, Texas, but there are some stark realizations this heartbreaking horror exposes. One is the wishful but mistaken notion that such incidents can be prevented by laws prohibiting or strictly restricting access to firearms.

Gun shows have very few and what they do have takes a deep pocket to get your hands on them! Takes 100.00 to spend a Sat plinking targets with a 22 these days!

No, it won't stop just because the US stops using. It wouldn't be as bad, but Mexico has always been corrupt, and has a culture of exploitation. And, I'm not talking about Gringo's.

As long as their Police earn a wage that forces them to supplement their income, their will not be uncorruptible police. Most are paid the Mexican Minimum wage. Also, they must pay a "mordida" to their superiors for the "privilege" of holding this low-paying job.

In the US, Police Officers earn reasonable salaries, in most places. Most Police Forces preclude them from taking side jobs as Bouncers, and Security for the types of things that can become conflicts of interests (you can't be paid Security at a rough Bar with unsavory persons, because you will get to know some, and they will attempt to corrupt you). ... Read More

And, they cornerstone of US Labor Law precludes payments to superiors for jobs. But, we have only had this protection for about 100 years. Prior to that, civil service jobs especially required informal kickbacks. And, corruption was rampant here because of it.

Until Mexican Law Enforcement will be able to feed , clothe, and house their families, absolutely nothing will change. Just the level of Instensity.

How can they reasonably enforce this bullshit? By searching your house of course! If your guns are stolen, just say "well officer, they all had trigger locks." Prove that they didn't. This law is unconstitutional just like every single other gun law. Any restriction whatsoever is an infringement. The Libs know that they cannot ban guns outright, so they follow incrementalism. This is another step in that direction.

I'm just a kid, but how is someone supposed to protect themselves from an assailant with a cell phone? If you don't have time to draw your gun, are you supposed to whip out your cell phone and dial 911 or are you gonna scare him away with a little light? If a cell phone of a flashlight scares the assailant why wouldn't a gun. I personally would be ... Read Moremore afraid of the gun than a cell phone. If your going to get out a pen or pencil while your being raped/ attacked why not get out something that's got a little more punch. A gun works well if an attacker is coming at you or on top of you, unlike a knife. So I would say that a gun is the best choice. And who cares if you know the person that is raping you. Do you want to be raped and probably injured?

I think that men and women alike should arm themselves with whatever they feel comfortable with to provide for their own well being...including deadly force if that is your choice. IMHO, we live in dangerous times and we must rely on ourselves to protect ourselves in a confrontion with the bad guys. Remember, when you are faced with mortal danger... Read More the police are only minutes away. My wife has a .357 revolver and I have two .45 acp autoloading pistols and there is a 12 gauge police style shotgun handy. My daughter is also well armed in her home. All of us are skilled, experienced shooters. We have chosen to be armed and self relient enough to defend ourselves in an emergency. If others aren't comfortable with doing that then they must rely on pepper spray and dialing 911...and maybe a nine iron.
For my family, being prepared physically and mentally to defend ourselves with deadly force is our choice.
