Rocco Rossi "Of our 63 mayors, 57 have been Protestant, white, English-speaking
Anglo-Saxon males. In 17 decades just a single visible minority has
been elected city-wide. No one born Catholic, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist,
Sikh, or Eastern Orthodox has ever been elected mayor."--Thoughts?

One Toronto mayor committed murder, another carried out a home invasion. One of our mayors was involved in torture. Another had 18 kids and cried poor, yet died on a luxury European vacation. One mayor ...

Those same Protestant, white, English-speaking
Anglo-Saxon males are also the same liberal minded individuals that have helped turn Canada into the multiculural society it is today. Trying to appeal to the minority vote in this way is both cheap and transparent. Nice try though.

Does it matter? Catherine Dianna Bailey is right about religion having very deep roots in our politics in the past. If people started to think a little more realistic politically, religiously, economically, we'd be able to make decisions without having to worry about our backgrounds. And the world could be come a little more global, a little more ... See Morecaring about each other, and little more tolerant about what we believe. There is power in words and beliefs, however in the end, those don't have to matter, what actually comes into existence for everybody, is our actions.

IT DOES NOT MATTER who they are, or what they say they believe, only what they do, that affects everybody. Judging based on the beliefs, is judging based on the past. Time moves too fast now for us to be focusing on the past. The future is coming faster and sooner. We need to make practical decisions and practical choices that will work for everybody.

Rocco Rossi Ipsos Reid asked Canadians if they would "encourage any family member to run for public office because it is a noble calling." Most Canadians polled - two out of every three, or 66 per cent - said no. What do you think?

2 prime examples of why, left or right the PM needs to go. He is dividing not uniting the people. He is causing the worst political climate this country has seen in a very long time and it is he who is to blame for the minority not working. He is the Captain and the ship is foundering. If we must have conservatism then lets have a new CPC leader of a minority.
Just get rid of the man who is single handedly ruining what was once a great party and a great nation.

Rocco Rossi What do you think about this idea?

An urban planner is floating an unusual solution to Toronto’s transit woes that would transform your commute into an experience you’d expect at the ski slopes.Designer and planner Steven Dale of Creative ...

I've sadly never been to Toronto, so I don't know all of the details of the TTC's problems, but but a few objections to this idea.

Speed: If you look at the website, they cite a potential speed of about 27km/hr. Vancouver's Skytrain, by comparison, is on average 45 km/hr (see wikipedia) - almost double. A major part of making public transit more competitive and appealing is by reducing transit time. Committing time and money to a mode that is half the speed of existing technology is therefore ill-advised.

Maturity: the article cites that such cable cars are 'proven.' However, rather than showing an actual pict of a real public transit cable car with all of his advertised features, he shows a 3D mockup. Is he expecting the TTC to commission the design and engineering of such cars? This would increase the risk of project delays and cost overruns, simply because it is no longer just public transit planning and construction but vehicle design and engineering, a project alone that would likely cost billions and take years to complete.... See More

Finally, he also cites grade separation and electric power as other advantages. Rail lines, though, can have the exact same advantages. Furthermore, rail technology is beyond mature: there are companies across North America, Europe, and Asia actively designing, engineering, and manufacturing trains that are aesthetically-appealing, comfortable, relatively quiet, fast, and electric (and so potentially sustainable). Why should Toronto risk getting anything less?

Interesting idea for some of Toronto's ravine areas (though one of the biggest ravine gaps is already serviced by the Bloor-Danforth subway). Properly placed, cable cars could also serve a dual purpose: a practical way to move people but also a tourist attraction of sorts. As for the engineering issue, I'd say (without having used it or even seen ... See Moreit action yet) Whistler-Blackcomb's peak 2 peak gondola (http://ww1.whistlerblackcomb.com/p2pg/) has probably done a lot to address questions of technology, construction and costs.
