I teach at California State University, Monterey Bay and Ron Takaki was my professor at Cal when I was a Ph.D. student. The students in one of my classes built this altar honoring and celebrating him for our Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead event. The banner/theme of the altar was "Aloha kumu." I wrote a short piece explaining the significance of... Read More this phrase (to me), as well talking about him. My students are reading 'A Different Mirror' this semester; they were very excited about honoring Professor Takaki.

What touched me the most was to see photos and video vignettes with him smiling and having fun with his family, his anchor in life. He continues to have a positive influence on us through his ideas and writings, but also through our memories of his humor and positive spirit.

Andrea Meyer

Andrea Meyer I will be thinking of you all tomorrow and paying tribute to Ron here from Colorado. I wish I could be with you all. Ron was so inspiring. It was an honor to know him and to learn from him. I am very grateful to have met him and to have worked with him. In all my interactions with him, he was always so full of hope for the future. I am glad he lived to see Obama become president.
