The new phrase from "applied hope" (Rocky Mountain Institute, David Orr, etc.) has resonated with me this week. It is the day to day, grassroots, neighbor to neighbor, parent to child, small or large acts and idea shifts that make our social and economic future dependable.

These keep the fire of hope kindled in ourselves and communities.

The number of children who are living in homeless shelters...when they can get a bed. And generally not even the same one night to night. The impact on their ability to feel safe, secure, grow and develop is a huge long term problem that impacts all of us. And of course, our environmet. How will they possibly grow into adults who have the ... Read Moremental and emotional space to care about Earth? Their priorities and focus are destined to be so much closer to just physical safety and food. They are the hidden generation....homeless children. It is such a massive, sad, tragic and fixable problem. I never hear our politicians or officials worrying about it or having summits about it. I feel so powerless. I would campaign hard for any candidate, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Green Party, Libertarian (unlikely) who said, "My number one priority is that no child will be homeless in this country" because once we resolve that...the rest will be doable. My two cents. Thanks for asking.
