Ivan, did you know that you can see everything we've newly purchased for the Library on our website? Go to: http://www.saclibrarycatalog.org/ftlist~S51 This will provide lists based on the what you're looking for. For example, new music, or new science fiction, etc. You can also subscribe to the RSS feeds of these lists so you can place holds on the items before everybody else!

Sim

Sim The Carmichael Public Library began using volunteer "Greeters/Docents" today. Does anyone have any suggestions for this program? Do any other libraries in the system use greeters or docents? Does it cut down on reference/circulation needs?

Sim, I hope you find the use of docents at the Carmichael Library helpful. If you have any suggestions for how these volunteers could improve services, please feel free to share them with staff at the Library; they are always happy to hear suggestions for service from our customers.

Ivan, there are ways to do this that vary based on your computer and whether the DVD is copyright-protected. Although, technically, it's not legal to rip library DVDs.

Ivan, at this time, the Library does not actively solicit suggestions for purchase from customers. More than anything, this is simply a question of capacity. When we did accept suggestions, we received well over one thousand per month; this required a great deal of staff attention beyond the work already devoted to collection development on the ... See Morepart of the Library's selectors. We do hope to be able to revive our customer suggestions for purchase in the future, after our selection process has been streamlined.
