Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families High levels of BPA found in workers has been linked to erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems in men. The researcher is now worried about effects from low-level exposure. Maybe this is the wake-up call needed to get some lawmakers to take chemical policy reform seriously?

Exposure to high levels of a controversial chemical found in thousands of everyday plastic products appears to cause erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems in men, according to a new study published Wednesday.

Unfortunately, even though the risks have already been established about BPA causing early puberty in girls and other endocrine disruption, this erectile dysfunction in men (a fairly recreational problem, comparatively) will probably be what gets it banned.

I have one of the best jobs anyone could ask for. I talk to people from all over the nation about how we can work together to change the status quo. (Little did I know that all those hours talking on the phone as a teenager were really prepping me for my career later in life.)

Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families “When you have 92 percent of the American population exposed to a chemical, this is not one where you want to be wrong,” said Dr. Ted Schettler of the Science and Environmental Health Network. “Are we going to quibble over individual rodent studies, or are we going to act?”

Bisphenol A, or BPA, is linked to things like cancer, obesity, attention deficit disorder and genital abnormalities, and it’s been found in our food.

But no defender looks at the COMBINATION of all the chemical exposure. Science studies ONE animal, one chemical, one time. Absurd - real life is a constant barrage of way too many.

I am concerned that there are over 80,000 chemicals in products that have never been tested for their safety. Products that people purchase and use every single day.

Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families Consumer Reports' BPA study is receiving lots of great news coverage and support from mainstream organizations -- and the predictable slings and arrows from industry groups. How many of you are posting encouraging comments in the online news stories that get the story right?

I no longer eat anything from a can. Besides chemicals and metals, they often use moldy fruits and vegetables. Molds produce mycotoxins like aflatoxin which is neurotoxic and carcinogenic. Even if the mold is killed in processing, you're still ingesting the allergenic mold spores and the chemical toxic byproducts.

Keith, "How eager are we to assume everything is crap that's out to poison us?"
How eager are we to believe that everything is safe just because some groups are saying so? You go ahead and wait for the rest of the world to catch up while you keep putting that crap in your body.

Teresa For many with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, forcing us to buy medical insurance that we can not use because it does not cover our condition or consider that we need holistic doctors and alternative medicine instead of mainstream doctors and pills loaded with chemicals, well... it is just the hight of absurdity. Why can't they see that such a thing would only destroy us both financially and medically?

I agree with Vanessa, it seems like a never-ending battle to get chemicals out of your home. We have well-meaning family and friends who gift toys I don't feel comfortable letting my kids use. There isn't enough public knowledge about these issues, and products with harmful chemicals are too readily available.
